5 Self-Help Books You Need to Read This January

It’s January. It’s a new year. It’s time to tackle those goals and reinvent yourself.

We’ll just ignore the impending doom of the new lockdown…

Though, no one would blame you if you put those sweatpants back on and opened that leftover Christmas chocolate. Lockdown is ROUGH.

But a great way to distract yourself from what’s happening outside is to focus on what you can control. It's another chance to smash your goals, without distractions. To start making progress towards your New Year’s Resolutions.

And we have some great book suggestions below to help you out.

But it’s also great to just survive. To get through the next few hours, days, weeks.

The books listed below are perfect for helping with that, too. Think of them as your little life guides, here to make the everyday that bit more manageable. You don’t have set any goals or make any changes.

So, whether 2021 will be your ‘New Year, New Me’ year, or whether you’re just looking for some quiet internal reflection, here are 5 self-help books you definitely need to read this January. 5 Books to kick those lockdown blues back into last year.

1. Help Me! How Self Help Did Not Change my Life by Marianne Power

The title of this might seem a bit counter-intuitive, but stick with us here; this is one of the best self-help books out there.

Everyone who follows us on social media will know how much we LOVE Marianne Power. We had the absolute pleasure of speaking with her live on Facebook, so please do check that out here if you couldn’t join us on the night.

Most of us don’t have the time to read every self-help book to find the ones that make a difference and work. But don’t worry, Marianne has done the legwork for us. In a single year, she challenged herself to read one self-help book a month, and follow everything it told her to do.

This is a truly hilarious, thought-provoking read. Described as the ‘Bridget Jones of self-help’, this is definitely one to lift your spirits this January.

2. Power Hour: Adrienne Herbert

What do you do in that first hour after you wake-up? Snooze the alarm? Watch the news? Or do you write that novel you’ve always wanted to write?

Adrienne Herbert's new book is here to help us find the time in our day, before the day even starts, to achieve our dreams. It just takes one hour.

This book is relevant and to the point. Having only been released on the 31st December 2020, it’s the most perfect book for lockdown.

Adrienne is a leading wellness professional, with lots of great experience under her belt. For example, she also hosts a weekly podcast by the same name, where she interviews a whole array of celebrities. It’s an intriguing, entertaining listen, so you should definitely check that out, too.

Don’t forget, we’ll also be holding a LIVE interview with Adrienne in February over on our Facebook page. Date TBC, but keep your eyes peeled.

3. Atomic Habits by James Clear

If you only have a few minutes a day, read this.

We’ve all heard that saying that Rome wasn’t built in a day, so why do we always assume we can change our lives in an instant?

In Atomic Habits, Clear shows us just how simple short bursts of productivity everyday can make a massive impact on our lives. He explores the science behind the Two Minute Rule, Habit Stacking, and the Goldilocks Zone (plus so many more time-busting techniques). He delves into the habits of top CEOs and Olympic gold medallists to see just how they became as successful as they are.

We’re also delighted to announce that this is the next read in our wellness book club Eunoia! You can sign-up for this session here. Eunoia book club it’s £5 for zoom access only, £15 for zoom access plus a well-being hamper and £25 for zoom and well-being hamper to include a copy of the book (sourced from book nook, RRP £16.99). 4. Mindfulness: A practical guide to finding peace in a frantic world by Professor Mark Williams and Dr Danny Penman

If you want to break the cycle of your anxiety, stress, and exhaustion, this is the book to read. This takes a scientific look at how you can find true happiness through spending only a dedicated few minutes a day working towards your goals.

5. Think Like a Monk: The Secret of How to Harness the Power of Positivity and be Happy Now by Jay Shetty

We’re a society of ‘instant’. Instant food, instant achievements, instant happiness. Monks don’t live like that, yet they’ve found the secret to having calm and purpose-led lives that we can only dream of.

Jay Shetty shares the knowledge gained from his 3 years as a monk of the Vedic tradition in this awe-inspiring book. There’re skills and techniques discussed to help you overcome anxiety, improve focus, improve relationships and so much more. The book you never thought you needed, but most certainly do.
